Description
LiDAR point cloud data for Washington, DC is available for anyone to use on Amazon S3 by downloading individual LAS tiles for 2015 and 2018. Portions of DC were required to be redacted. In these cases, tiles with shaded areas will contain partial data while the remaining sections of the tile are at 1 meter redaction.
LiDAR is a remote sensing method that emits hundreds of thousands of near-infrared light pulses a second to measure distances to the Earth. These light pulses generate precise, 3D information about the shape of the Earth and its surface characteristics.
