Roubaix, with its rich heritage, has been committed to a voluntary and ambitious policy of reconquest, conservation, restoration and enhancement of its heritage for more than twenty years.
In 2001, the City and the State signed the City of Art and History Convention, which accompanied the creation of the Remarkable Heritage Site, also created in 2001, in a strong approach to the protection and enhancement of heritage. The city now has 45 historic monuments and a listed site, the Barbieux Park.
The Ministry of Culture, Directorate-General for Heritage, awards the City or Country of Art and History label to local and regional authorities which carry out activities to promote architecture and heritage. It guarantees the competence of the tour guides, the animators of architecture and heritage and the quality of their actions.
