Processed ELSTAT data and primary generated diagrams (GIS files) identifying the Functional Urban Areas in Greece based on daily commuting as recorded in the 2001 population census.
Functional Urban Areas (FUAs: Funcational Urban Areas are generally defined as the areas around urban centres that are functionally connected to them. The concept of functional urban area covered by this dataset is determined on the basis of the basic criterion of whether, at local authority level, the daily commuting of the population for work exceeds 10% of the economically active population. In particular, if the daily commutes for the purpose of work of the population of a local authority to an urban centre exceed 10% of the economically active population of the local authority, then the specific area is considered to be part of the Functional Urban Area of the urban centre in which these commutes are observed.
