Cultural Landscape Types of Austria (1997)
Description
The cultural landscape structure of Austria contains defined cultural landscape groupings (37) on satellite images in a scale of 1:200.000, which are grouped together into cultural landscape type series (12). These are mainly ordered according to the dominant land use system, the cultural landscapes of the alpine and subalpine levels, forest-dominated cultural landscapes, cultural landscapes with predominantly grassland use, cultural landscapes with cereal and feed cultivation, viticulture and fruit-growing landscapes as well as settlement and industrial areas. The content of the cultural landscape typing is based on nature conservation needs, which is clearly shown in the chosen demarcation criteria. These describe the land use, relief, but also the degree of equipment and distribution patterns of landscape elements.
