Description
In 2013, around 79.6 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent were emitted in Austria. Emissions were thus around 1.2 % higher than in 1990. Compared to the previous year, emissions decreased by 0.2 % in 2013. In particular, the main responsibility was the reduction in emissions in the field of energy production. The non-European Emissions Trading (EH) sectors emitted 49.68 million tonnes in 2013. They thus fell below the national emission ceiling for 2013 allowed under the Effort-Sharing Decision by 2.9 million tonnes. According to scenario analyses by the Federal Environment Agency, the EU’s greenhouse gas reduction target by 2020 can only be achieved through additional measures at home, especially in transport and indoor heating.
