Description
Identification cards, card issuers and numbering systems to ensure the uniqueness of cards issued are defined by the International Standard ISO/IEC 7812 Identification cards — Identification of issuers issued in two parts: ISO/IEC 7812-1:2006, Numbering system and
ISO/IEC 7812-2:2007, Application and registration procedures.
According to that international standard, all ID card issuers, regardless of their type of activity, are registered in one place in the world — with the American Bankers’ Association, Washington, USA, which is responsible for the application and maintenance of that international standard (Registration Authority).
Card issuers are assigned a Unique Identification Number (iin).
The Croatian Standards Institute as a Croatian national standardisation body, and at the request of potential card issuers from the Republic of Croatia, mediates their registration at international level.
The data on registered card issuers in the Republic of Croatia are kept in the Register of CARD CARDS of the Croatian Standards Institute.
