Indonesia LESTARI Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction 2015-2019

Description

This analysis was conducted to determine greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions during the life of the project (2015 - 2019) due to landscape degradation and deforestation for the six landscapes where LESTARI implemented activities. These landscapes were: Leuser, Katingan-Kahayan, Lorentz Lowlands, Mappi – Bouven Digoel, Sarmi, and Cyclops. The life of project GHG emission analysis for the USAID LESTARI project was calculated using the Government of Indonesia (GOI) Forest Reference Emission Level (FREL) methodology. Users of this data should familiarize themselves with this methodology available at https://redd.unfccc.int/files/frel_submission_by__indonesia_final.pdf. Official GOI land use data and peat distribution data was used to calculate these changes that led to GHG emissions. This data was accessed through project partners for the purpose of defining the baselines. GOI data is not publicly available. USAID LESTARI produced 2019 land use data for all landscapes in-house as official data had not been published at the end of the project. Data for 2018 in the Aceh landscape is also available as this was produced by the project.

21 This dataset identifies areas within the 6 LESTARI landscapes where land degradation or deforestation occurred annually from 2015 to 2019. https://data.usaid.gov/d/5xne-bkmv
21 These spreadsheets calculate actual Above Ground Emissions during the project period in the landscapes. Each Sheet contains 4 project year periods (calendar years) used to create actual emissions from land use change (2015-2016 = project year 2016; 2016-2017 = project year 2017; 2017-2018 = project year 2018; 2018-2019 = project year 2019). https://data.usaid.gov/d/yp3d-6kc5
21 This data has land use information for Aceh in 2018 and for Katingan-Kahayan, Lorentz Lowlands, Mappi-Bouven Digoel, Sarmi and Cyclops landscapes in 2019. In 2019, land use classes were simplified to speed up the process and focus on forest change only. Land use changes and emissions of non-forests are not required under the FREL method. https://data.usaid.gov/d/wzh2-pyif
21 These spreadsheets calculate actual emissions from peat decomposition – below ground emissions – during the project period in the landscapes. Each Sheet contains 4 project year periods (calendar years) used to create actual emissions from peat decomposition (2015-2016 = project year 2016; 2016-2017 = project year 2017; 2017-2018 = project year 2018; 2018-2019 =- project year 2019) https://data.usaid.gov/d/9pd9-fkvh
