Potential forest productivity can be defined as the maximum production of wood that could be obtained from a forest, using the species with the highest growth and compatible with the stability of the environment. This maximum production is determined exclusively by ecological factors, being independent of human action on the forest mass, which is ultimately what determines the real productivity. Thus, in naturally regenerated masses and without intensive cultural care (irrigations, amendments, fertilisers ...), wood production will have a maximum limit that will be a function of the components of the abiotic environment, mainly climate and soil, and that will only be achieved through proper technical management.
