The map contains 24,518 palm locations. Of these, 23,743 correspond to Canary palms (Phoenix canariensis Chabaud) and 141 are date palms (Phoenix dactylifera L.) and another 775 that have hybrid characteristics between Canary Islands and dates. Promoted by the Biodiversity Service of the Government of the Canary Islands, it has been prepared on a scale of 1:500 through orthophoto recognition (ortoexpress and urban orthophotos -both of the IDECanarias- and orthophotos of the PNOA) and categorised according to the degree of naturalness of the context in which the specimens are located. The preparation consisted of two phases: the first, developed by Bejeque Medio Ambiente y Diseño SLL during 2015 (Resolution 583/2015 of the Directorate-General for Nature Protection of 15 June 2015), corresponding to the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife; the second, developed by the University Foundation of Las Palmas (FULP) during 2016/2017 (Resolution 219/2016 of the General Directorate of Nature Protection of 9 August 2016), corresponding to the province of Las Palmas. Both contracts have been co-financed with ERDF funds from the European Union.
