Surveyed gull nests – City of Lorient

Description

Location of gull nests identified as part of the counting and sterilisation campaigns on the territory of the City of Lorient since 2017. This geographical dataset shall specify: • the official name of the municipality • the INSEE code and the name of the municipality • the area of the city and the IRIS related to the nest • the species of gull • The monitoring protocol • The support of the nest • Nest treatment • Number of eggs and chicks recorded • Coordinated X,Y of the Lambert93CC48 system • Coordinate Lat, long in WGS84 system **Protocol for the census and sterilisation of gull eggs.** The different species of gulls are now protected. By prefectural authorisation, the City of Lorient carries out processing operations for silver and brown gull eggs. This approach carried out in May is regularly reassessed by the State services. 4 main sectors are identified in the municipality of Lorient: • residential sectors (Housing Sector) • Naval Group site (Lorient) • from the site of the fishing port • and the site of the Commercial Port Depending on the site, the situation of the nests, the City applies a counting or processing protocol. The counting protocol was introduced in 2021. **Are covered by the sterilisation protocol of eggs: ** _The silver gulls _ • A prefectural order sets the number of nests to be treated at a maximum of 400. • A nest is treated if the site is accessible by nacelle or on foot • Nests present in residential areas • In the area of the Fishing Harbour and Naval Group, the organisations present on site can request a sterilisation operation at a few sites. The prefectural authorities give their authorisation or not. _Brown gulls _ • A prefectural order sets the number of nests to be treated at a maximum of 20. • Treatment takes place only in residential areas **Are covered by the nest counting protocol: ** _In residential areas _ • Marine gulls • Brown gulls when a nest is not accessible for processing or when 20 nest sterilisation quota is exceeded • Silver gulls if the nest is not accessible for treatment _At port area level _ • All nests are counted regardless of the species of gull encountered. **Reading of the dataset table** As part of the sterilisation protocol, each identified nest is related to a site. Each site may include 1 or more nests. Each nest is detailed with a systematic count of eggs and chicks. It is also indicated whether the nest has been treated. On the other hand, as part of the counting protocol, each site includes a sheet indicating the number of nests found of visu. Eggs and chicks are not counted.
