Follow-up of the flight of the bark beetles of the spicea

Description

In order to better understand the parameters that influence the presence of this bark beetle, the evolution of Ips typographer populations was monitored by the ULB Spatial Epidemiology Laboratory from 2008 to 2011. In 2012, the Walloon Observatory of Forest Health resumed this monitoring. A trapping device is deployed every year in Wallonia. Traps make it possible to attract bark beetles thanks to an attractive synthesis. These traps are collected every two weeks, from March 15 to October 30, in order to follow the periods of emergence of insects (spring flights, summer flights). The objectives of these surveys are, on the one hand, to collect sufficient data to allow the identification of favorable conditions for the development of Ips typographus and, on the other hand, to estimate the relative evolution of insect populations to put it in relation to climatic factors or abiotic events. The data collected also makes it possible to detect the flight of Ips. These flights, two or three per year, precede the damage to the trees. This information allows forest managers to increase their monitoring and take the necessary measures to reduce the intensity of damage to their stands.
