Namur - Full Color Thermography

Description

Infrared scanner aerial thermography is a technique that allows to measure and illustrate the “radiative flow” emitted by overflying roofs. Thanks to these radiative fluxes, it is possible, under certain conditions, to estimate the importance of thermal losses of roofs. Thermography therefore gives an indication of the insulation state of the roofs. An aircraft equipped with an infrared scanner flew over the town during the nights of 16-17 and 23-24 February 2018. For the data to be correct, several conditions had to be met (good visibility, clear skies, 80 % humidity, temperatures between -5 °C and -3 °C, wind from ± 4 to 7 km/h, flight altitude: 1 200 m (resolution of data acquisition: 50 cm on the ground). After overflight, the data collected made it possible to calculate a loss index for each building located in the commune of Namur. In order to calibrate the data, 120 Citizens volunteered to test their building as a “witness”. On the nights of the flights, they took different temperature measurements inside and outside their home and filled out a form regarding the characteristics of the house. Roofs are then classified into 256 levels according to their average emission. These are therefore not real temperature values.
