Freight modal shift indicator

Description

Evolution in thousands of tonnes of the net weight of goods transported by rail, road, Belgian inland waterways and Belgian airports. In order to better assess the current situation of rail freight transport, Infrabel compared its main indicator, the annual net weight carried on its network, with other available Belgian indicators.This dataset brings together data from the following sources:Annual evolution of net tonnage: Infrabel’s Open Data on the annual trend in net tonnage transported by rail.Road freight transport: This data comes from Statbel. This is the transport of goods by road (on Belgian and foreign territory) by vehicles registered in Belgium with a payload of at least 1 tonne. More information on the Statbel website.Internal cargo shipping: This data comes from Statbel. These figures refer to the inland navigation of all vessels on Belgian inland waterways, including those from abroad. More information on the Statbel website.Air freight transport: these data come from the FPS Mobility and Transport website. They are provided by the operators of these airports. The data and the proposed scoreboard are updated annually.
