Background: the Cartofriches System The main need that Cartofriches wishes to address is the help in the census of brownfield sites to qualify them and facilitate their reuse. Despite the existence of national bases such as BASIAS and BASOL and high-quality local observatories, knowledge of brownfield sites at national level has so far remained partial and diffuse because of the diversity of cases and the rapid evolution of sites. The objective of Cartofriches, in the long term, is thus to support developers and developers of rehabilitation projects by setting up a national inventory of available brownfield sites. The data table produced as part of this project, which brings together national and local data, is available in opendata. Access the Cartofriches data visualisation application: https://cartofriches.cerema.fr/ Description of the Cartofriches data table The data table available in opendata makes it possible to reference potentially fallow sites. The term ‘fallow land’ is taken here in the sense of artificialised and unoccupied spaces. The data table contains information on the location of these sites (geographic coordinates, parcel identifiers, geolocated polygons, etc.), but also context information (type of owner, pollution status, urban planning law, etc.). The sources that made this table possible In order to build up a national brownfield inventory database, Cerema relied on several data sources. National data sources identified almost 3000 sites across the country. Cerema is continuing this national census work, which for the time being makes it possible to have only a sample of all existing brownfield sites. The national data used and information on treatments are available here: https://artificialisation.biodiversitetousvivants.fr/cartofriches/donnees-used The gathering of local data, as close as possible to the field, makes it possible to complete Cerema's work at the national level, and will ultimately constitute a strong added value of the system. These local data are transmitted by local actors, who have an observatory or carry out studies. Indeed, the territories for which local data exists in Cartofriches actually have more sites. The purpose of the data table is to provide a list of potentially brownfield sites: it is not intended to be exhaustive. On the other hand, the fields in the data table have been harmonised to bring together information from multiple sources. This made it possible to form a single table, but it also implies that not all fields are necessarily filled in.
