VEETGANGERS_AUTOLUWE_ZONES Urban Development/Management_and_Operations What is a pedestrian zone or car-free zone? Pedestrian zones and car-free zones are areas where you are not allowed to drive. These areas are each marked with a specific road sign. Only during the designated hours, the so-called ‘window times’, traders and residents can enter the zones to load and unload. Outside these window times, you will need permission to enter these zones. If there are no window times listed, you will always need an admission. Pedestrian and car-free zones apply to all motorised vehicles, including motorcycles and mopeds. How are the zones designated? Pedestrian zone A pedestrian zone is indicated by a rectangular white-blue road sign (F103) and ends with the same black-and-white sign with a black stripe through it (F105). This sign also shows any window times. Car-free zone A car-free zone is indicated by a round red and white C3 sign. Also on this board are the possible window times. How is traffic excluded from the zones? There are several ways to keep traffic out of the car-free and pedestrian zones. ANPR camera These cameras record the number plate of each vehicle entering the zone. Unlicensed drivers will automatically receive a GAS fine. Residents and traders in an area with automatic exit points can apply for an access card in certain cases. This allows them to operate the vanishing posts outside window hours and drive in or out of the area. The emergency services have a remote control, which gives them access to all areas. Traffic signs Some areas are only protected by a traffic sign. Here too, residents and traders in the zone need a permit to enter or leave the area.
