National rail risk reference values established by the European Commission
Description
National rail risk reference values established by the European Commission according to the performance of each Member State in the rail sector.
There are six categories of national risk reference values (NRVs):
* VNR 1: for passengers
* NRV 2: for staff
* NRV 3: for level crossing users
* NRV 4: for persons defined as "other"
* VNR 5: for unauthorised persons
* NRV 6: for the whole of society
The data available for download exposes the NRV to risks for society as a whole (NRV 6). The lower a value, the lower the rail risk.
NRV 6 is expressed by the following ratio: total number of FWSIs (serious injuries and fatalities per year due to serious accidents) out of the number of train-km per year. The indicator is therefore related to the consistency of each railway network. The total number of FWSIs is understood as the sum of all FWSIs taken into account in the calculation of other NRVs.
