Consistency of the rail network from 2003 to 2013.
* "Lines equipped with ground-train radio": this field also includes, since 2008, GSM-R (Global System for Mobile Communications – Railways), a GSM communication standard adapted to communications in the rail sector.
* "Lines equipped with automatic block": signalling device to space trains. Given their large mass and speed, trains need great distances to stop. To space trains by distance, the line is divided into cantons, knowing that only one train is allowed in the canton. The entrance to each canton is controlled by a stop signal which may take the form of an automatic block. In this case, the axles of the train automatically cause the signals to close.
These data are taken from the annual Operational Safety Report on the French national rail network. Published each year, this report takes stock of the company’s safety activities and fulfils the information obligation imposed on SNCF under Article 17 of [Decree No 2006-1279 of 19 October 2006] (http://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/affichTexte.do?cidTexte=JORFTEXT000788918) on the safety of rail traffic and the interoperability of the rail system.
