Greenhouse gas emissions balances SNCF

Description

The greenhouse gas emissions balance (BEGES) makes it possible to assess the total volume over one year of GHG emissions and removals induced by SNCF’s activities and expressed in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent. The data proposed in this dataset are those of the SNCF Voyageurs, SNCF Réseau, Gares et Connexions, Fret SNCF and SNCF Holding balance sheets. The balance sheets cover the activities of the group's companies on French territory. The GHG emission items are grouped by categories according to the new nomenclature of standard 14064-1. ISO 14064-1 distinguishes six emission categories: 1. Direct GHG emissions 2. Indirect emissions associated with energy 3. Indirect emissions associated with transport 4. Indirect emissions associated with purchased products 5. Indirect emissions associated with products sold 6. Other indirect emissions Article L229-25 of the Environmental Code stipulates that certain organizations must regularly establish a balance sheet of their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This assessment is public and must be carried out every 4 years for private legal persons and every 3 years for public legal persons. It must be submitted electronically on the ADEME (Agence de la Transition Écologique) GHG assessment platform, hosted at the following address: . These balance sheets are also publicly available at this address. The international standards of the GHG Protocol divide GHG emission balances into three categories, called "scopes". We also propose this breakdown: * Scope 1 covers direct emissions, * Scope 2 covers indirect emissions associated with energy, * Scope 3 covers other indirect emissions. The company is subject to the DPEF (Declaration of Extra-Financial Performance) which includes a transition plan.
