Urban agriculture area in Paris
Description
This indicator measures the area of urban agriculture in Paris on both open land, green buildings and indoor crops.
This indicator is linked to the objective of developing urban agriculture and supporting sustainable agriculture in Paris. Urban agriculture has been implemented, in particular, through the Parisculteurs call for projects scheme since 2016.
The global health, climate and social crises raise the question of food supply and its relocation to urban, peri-urban areas, by developing short local circuits, in connection with agricultural territories. Urban agriculture is a lever for adaptation to climate change.
This municipal policy has essentially consisted in mobilising and adapting municipal sites or sites owned by partner owners to make them available for agricultural projects through the organisation of calls for projects, assisting the winners in their installation and then monitoring the projects while largely promoting the approach.
This action is measured by the evolution of the urban agricultural area in Paris, which has been on an upward and regular trend for several years, from 25 hectares in 2020 to 37 hectares in 2024.
