Description

**Set of sectoral emissions of NOx, PM10 and fine particulate matter PM2.5** Emissions refer to the quantities of air pollutants and GHGs directly released into the atmosphere by human activities (road traffic, heating, construction sites, agriculture, factories, etc.). The problematic pollutants in Paris are, among others, nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and fine particles (PM10 and PM2.5). Their concentrations exceed WHO recommendations. Nitrogen oxides (NOX) are the sum of emissions of nitrogen monoxide (NO), the precursor of NO2, and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), which are harmful to health. For primary particles: a distinction is made between PM10 particles, with a diameter of less than 10 μm, and PM2.5 with a diameter of less than 2.5 μm. PM10 emissions include PM2.5 particulate emissions. It is important to clearly differentiate the notion of “emissions”, which are the discharges of pollutants into the atmosphere, from that of “concentrations”, which are the levels breathed into the air and compared to health values.
