Selection of works preserved in the Museum of the Departmental Domain of Sceaux and representing missing castles in the departments of Hauts-de-Seine and Yvelines.

Anyone travelling through Ile-de-France will be struck by the number of castles and other stately homes. While some still mark the Ile-de-France landscape with their presence, many have left only memories of past and past glory. Destruction, dismantling, reconstruction and abandonment have marked the history of these prestigious buildings, once centres of power and authority, but also of artistic creation, now places of memory and walks.
This is what this presentation intends to evoke, which will take the visitor along a route, following the course of the Seine, an artery so important to the history of Ile-de-France, while allowing a few diverted paths. A selection of paintings, drawings and prints, as well as some photographs, will show the castles that have disappeared from Colbert to Sceaux, from the Grand Dauphin to Meudon, from Conti to Issy-les-Moulineaux, from Monsieur to Saint-Cloud, from Louis-Philippe to Neuilly-sur-Seine, but also the castles of Clagny, Marly-le-Roi, Mantes-la-Jolie, not to mention those of Montfort-L’Amaury and Perray-en-Yvelines.
