The André-Desguine library, named after its donor, has nearly 55,000 volumes.
The exceptional nature of the donation is as much due to its quantitative importance as to its chronological scale. Indeed, it has 8000 editions prior to 1800, including 158 incunabula. As for the 44,000 volumes composing the modern collections (more than half of them 19th century editions), they offer, by their completeness in many fields, a global panorama of the intellectual and social history of this period.
What also distinguishes this heritage collection is the formidable tool it constitutes to apprehend the history of the printed book.
**Special comments**
A patching-up project is currently under way. This dataset is therefore not an exhaustive inventory of the collection. It contains only documents that have already been redrafted and will be enriched each year.
