Boundaries of the arrondissements of the department of Hauts-de-Seine

The departmental district is an administrative district, a subdivision of the department; it is subdivided into cantons, which are themselves subdivided into communes. The administration of a district is entrusted to a sub-prefect who assists the prefect of the department in his missions. Unlike regions, departments and communes, departmental districts are not the seat of a territorial collectivity, a legal person governed by public law. They also have no proper name and are designated by the name of the city seat of the sub-prefecture.
The department of Hauts-de-Seine consists of three districts: Antony, Boulogne-Billancourt and Nanterre.

**Special comments**
Until the creation of the department of Hauts-de-Seine (Law 64-707 of 10 July 1964, which entered into force on 1 January 1968), the communes were divided between the department of Seine and the department of Seine-et-Oise. Here are the key dates for the creation of the arrondissements of the department of Hauts-de-Seine:
* 1965: creation of the arrondissements of Nanterre, Bobigny and Créteil (Seine, with a view to the formation of Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne, these three arrondissements being created implicitly by the designation of the capitals of the future departments);
* 1966: creation of the arrondissements of Antony (Seine, for the formation of Hauts-de-Seine), Nogent-sur-Marne (Seine, for the formation of Val-de-Marne), Etampes (Seine-et-Oise, for the formation of Essonne) and Argenteuil (Seine-et-Oise, for the formation of Val-d'Oise);
* 1972: creation of the arrondissements of Boulogne-Billancourt (Hauts-de-Seine) and L'Haÿ-les-Roses (Val-de-Marne);
