VIT-Coleopterotheca - Basque Country Nature Information System

The Coleopteroteca of the Natural History Museum of Álava was created in 1974 and currently houses around 160,000 copies, of which 133,700 are archived in the database. The number of taxa is approximately 5,000. The main collectors are Juan María Marcos, Imanol Zabalegui, Federico Zuazo, Ibón de Olano, Diego Sánchez Miyares, Pablo Bahillo, Felipe Calvo, José María Salgado and José Sebastián Estévez. The collection is particularly numerous in specimens of the superfamily Caraboidea from the Basque Country (Northern Spain) (Ortuño & Marcos, 2003); and in cave fauna, including numerous paratypes, collected in different locations in the northern half of Spain. Here the data corresponding to the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country have been imported from Gbif.
