Description
AIDS (CIE-9: 279.5.6 and CIE10: B20-B24)1 was responsible for 1.1 % of deaths. From 1990 to 1997, AIDS mortality tripled, and in 1998 it began to decline to lower levels than in 1990. The geographical distribution of mortality is characterised by a very marked geographical pattern, with excesses in mortality heavily delimited to areas of the three capitals and the regions of Gernika-Bermeo, Bajo Deba and Duranguesado, together with large areas of the three territories with a lower mortality.
