Mortality due to dementia and Alzheimer’s disease in men in the Basque Country (1996-2003)

Description

Dementias and Alzheimer’s disease (ICD-9: 290, 331.0 and CIE10: F00-F09, G30)* were responsible for 3 % of the total deaths in men, ranking fifth in the cause of death ranking. During the period 1990-2004, mortality from this cause has increased annually by about 2.7 %. Gipuzkoa is the territory that had the lowest mortality from this cause, in Bizkaia the sections with the highest risk of mortality are distributed in the regions Gran Bilbao, Plentzia-Mungia, Gernika-Bermeo and Arratia-Nervión. In Álava the sections with the highest risk of mortality are located in the western part of the Llanada Alavesa.
