Description
List of the strong villagers of Clermont Auvergne Métropole characterised by a medieval urban planning specific to the town centres.
In 14 communes of Clermont Auvergne Métropole, it is possible to spot the traces of the strong villagers, defensive systems distinct from the seigneurial castles. Built by the inhabitants themselves, these forts, organised around a church, a tower or a castle, and equipped with a defensive system, were intended to ensure collective security. Most of the village forts were built at the time of the Hundred Years War (14th and 15th centuries). This document reveals the route of the village forts in the town centres in order to bring to the knowledge of all this unknown urbanism.
