Number of self-employed persons, by sector of activity

Description

Annual number of self-employed persons at 31/12 between 2004 and 2022 by sector of activity, type of worker and occupational group. _Source_: URSSAF _Methodological details_: * These data count contributors’ accounts and not individuals. They do not include farmers, which are monitored by the Caisse centrale de la Mutualité sociale Agricole (CCMSA). Moreover, they concern all self-employed persons covered by the social protection of the self-employed, which excludes self-employed persons who are not self-employed workers within the meaning of social protection: directors of certain companies (SA, SAS/SASU), corporate agents or minority managers of SARL, and who are considered as employees (attached to the general scheme by Article L311-3 of the CSS). * For the professional pursuit of his economic activity, the self-employed person (IT) may opt for the so-called “classic” status or that of self-employed person (AE). This choice determines the method of reporting and calculating contributions. Within the two statutes, several categories are identified, within the meaning of social security: craftsmen, traders, liberal professions. * Is considered **administratively active** an IT that has been registered before or during the year under review, whether or not it has reported positive income or turnover, and still registered as of December 31 of the year. * Is considered **economically active** an AE having reported a strictly positive turnover over the year studied. * The Professional Group “nca _non-classified_ailleurs_” includes IT whose occupational group is unknown and, more marginally, IT whose crossing Type of IT x Sector x Occupational group does not respect statistical confidentiality. * The “_calage_” sector allows the total number of traditional IT and EIs per occupational group to be rescaled, taking into account the reclassification of some IT to the occupational group “nca _non_classé_ailleurs_” due to non-compliance with statistical confidentiality.
