Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC)

Description

The Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) process was implemented into the legal order of the Czech Republic on 1 January 2003, when Act No. 76/2002 Coll., on Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control, on the Integrated Pollution Register and on Amendments to Certain Acts (the Integrated Pollution Prevention Act) entered into force. Integrated prevention is a set of measures aimed at preventing pollution, reducing emissions into air, water and soil, reducing waste generation and valorising waste in order to achieve a high overall level of environmental protection. The technical level of the installation, in particular in terms of the level of emissions and amount of waste achieved, material and energy performance, environmental management method and tools, is compared with the best available techniques (Best Available Techniques). These are incorporated in the European Reference Documents on Best Available Techniques (BREFs). There are approximately 1,600 installations in the Czech Republic that are subject to the obligation to have an integrated permit. The obligation to have an integrated permit is based on Act No 76/2002 Coll. and concerns installations listed in Annex 1 to this Act.
