Description
Hollows are a common part of forest management, so cultivation practices should focus on reducing their negative impact on forest ecosystems. Small shavings open spaces for natural rejuvenation, but also for artificial regeneration, and thus enable forest owners to quickly and efficiently transform the species composition of woody plants. Conversely, large-scale shavings, e.g. after bark beetle wood has been harvested, cause a sudden change in the characteristics of the forest soil and make subsequent afforestation significantly more difficult.
