Flood zones - 20 year floods

Description

The data set contains data of floodplains including smaller tributaries at the level of flood Q5, Q20, Q100 and delimitation of the active zone of the floodplain of the city of Brno. According to the Water Act (Water Act) No. 254/2001 Coll. Section 66 paragraph. are floodplains administratively designated areas that may be flooded with water in the event of natural flooding. The extent of the floodplain is determined by the water authority on the basis of hydrotechnical calculations by the administrator of the watercourse concerned. In built-up areas, buildable areas and other areas, the water authority shall, on the proposal of the watercourse manager, define the active zone of the floodplain according to the danger of flood flows. Floodplains and their active zones are defined by the Water Authority by a measure of a general nature. The method and scope of processing the design and determination of floodplains is regulated by Decree of the Ministry of the Environment No. 79/2018 Coll., on the method and scope of processing the design and determination of floodplains and their documentation, as amended. Floodplains are determined by hydraulic calculation of the highest water levels for flows with different repetition times. The active zone of the floodplain is determined according to the hazards of the flood flow on the basis of the preparation of flood hazard maps. Flood hazard means the evaluation of flood intensity based on a hydraulic calculation defined by the depth and velocity of water flow during floods with different recurrence times. In a real flood situation, there are many influencing factors that can cause a difference in the actual flow from the designated flood area. These include, for example, the accumulation of wetlands on unsuitable flow objects, the duration and volume of the flood wave, the intensity and duration of the rainfall and its area extent, the saturation of the catchment area and the infiltration capacity of the soil, the state of vegetation, the clash of flood flows at the confluence of watercourses, the violation of the channels of watercourses or buildings in inundation, special floods caused by the violation of waterworks, ice phenomena, etc. The floodplain covers only the spillage from the said watercourse, it does not take into account the spillage caused by the surface runoff during intense rainfall activity, the eruption of water from the sewer network or flooding with groundwater due to the rise of the groundwater level. Flood data Q5, Q20, Q100 and active zones are displayed in the Water application in Brno. More detailed information can be found in the documentation. The data is in the GCS WGS84 coordinate system.
