VisuRIS Comex within the framework of Directive 2005/44/EC

Description

This series of data layers represents VisuRIS data related to river information. VisuRIS (part of the Walloon Region) is a river information dataset (RIS) for Walloon inland waterways. This dataset provides details on waterway features, bridges, locks and water levels. This data is particularly useful for commercial navigators, but it can also be beneficial for boaters. The data is structured according to the legal reference for River Information Services (RIS) in Europe is mainly based on Directive 2005/44/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 7 September 2005. This Directive establishes a harmonised framework for the implementation of river information services on inland waterways in the European Community. This Directive aims to improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of inland waterway transport by facilitating the exchange of information between the various actors in the sector. It covers several aspects, such as: • Technical standards: definition of standards for RIS systems in order to ensure interoperability between the various European countries; • Information services: setting up information services for navigators, including information on traffic, weather conditions and incidents; • Coordination: promotion of cooperation between national authorities for harmonised management of inland waterways. This dataset is reported in the framework of the sectoral Directive 2005/44/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 7 September 2005 on harmonised river information services (RIS) on inland waterways in the Community (OJ L 255, 30.9.2005, p. 152).
