Satellite data

Description

Satellite data can be used as decision support and as a basis for service development in a wide range of application areas. The potential of using satellite data remains largely unexplored. Earth observation satellites make it possible to monitor the state of the Earth on land, in marine environments and in the atmosphere. Navigation satellites are a must for the transport sector and are used daily in our mobiles. Communication satellites allow us, for example, to follow global live broadcasts or communicate via satellite telephone. The Copernicus Earth observation programme (see documentation) is initiated by the EU and provides global data that is open and free to all. At present, about 20TB of data is produced per day. The current API (see documentation) makes satellite images from Sentinel 2 available. Sentinel 2 is a multi-band optical satellite used, for example, to monitor: agriculture and forestry, in mapping water sources and the state of marine environments, climate change, in urban planning, in disaster areas, etc. But there are also Earth observation satellites that can detect, for example, land movements and oil spills (Sentinel 1), satellites that can detect emissions into the atmosphere (Sentinel 5P), satellites that can measure surface temperature (land and sea) and see the topography of the sea surface (Sentinel 3). Navigation data from the Galileo satellites can improve positioning and navigation compared to GPS, for example. Space data can be applied, combined and useful in an infinite amount of applications. What new areas of application can you find?
