Collections preserved in the germplasm bank of Castilla y León
Description
Currently only 150 species of the 300,000 known species of phanerogamous plants are cultivated, and most of the population lives on no more than 12 species of plants. If we add to this that for the main crops a limited number of improved varieties have been developed that have displaced by their technological advantages to the traditional ones, we find a very notable reduction in diversity, it is what we know as genetic erosion. Aware of this irremediable loss of diversity, the problem of conservation was addressed. In the ITACyL there is a germplasm bank composed of base collection chamber, use and improver collection chambers, and seed processing area.
The data set lists all those collections currently preserved in the Germplasm Bank of ITACyL
