CyL renewables: Environmental Sensitivity Natura Network

Description

Environmental sensitivity to wind and solar energy production facilities in Natura 2000 Network sites (SACs and SPAs) in Castilla y León. Law 4/2015, of 24 March, on the Natural Heritage of Castilla y León establishes, with respect to the Natura 2000 Network, that the carrying out of any activity, plan, program or project that, without having a direct relationship with the management of a site included in the Natura 2000 Network or without being necessary for it, may appreciably affect said site, either individually or in combination with others, will be conditioned on being assured that it will not cause damage to the integrity of that site. According to the classification of uses contained in the law, renewable energy production facilities are considered evaluable activities, that is, prior to their approval or realization they must be subjected to specific analysis, and during this process it must be ensured that the activity does not affect the integrity of the Network. Indicate that many of the Basic Plans for the Management and Conservation of Natura 2000 Protected Areas and the Basic Plans for the Management and Conservation of Natura 2000 Values point to renewable energy production facilities as threatening factors for the future of these areas. * The presentation of this information does not replace the relevant procedures for environmental impact assessment of projects or prejudge the results of the corresponding environmental impact statements, since they are offered only to facilitate an early assessment from the first stages of defining a potential renewable energy project on the condition of a specific space with high environmental sensitivity.
