Description

The Special Protection Low Emission Zone (ZBEDEP) “District Centro” was created in development of the Madrid 360 Environmental Sustainability Strategy, to protect human health and the urban environment by improving air quality and reducing the negative effects of motorized traffic. For these purposes, access to vehicles with environmental classification 'A' is prohibited (and, therefore, they cannot obtain environmental badge), while vehicles with environmental classification 'B' and 'C' are prohibited from accessing the ZBEDEP 'Central District' only to cross it, although they may do so to park in a parking lot for public or private use, or reserve parking located inside. In any case, the access criteria provide for certain exceptions, which affect residents, companies and self-employed, people with reduced mobility, public services, student transport to educational centers and other groups and assumptions. On the contrary, the free movement of vehicles is allowed in all the streets that make up the perimeter of the ZBEDEP “District Centro”, as well as in some streets or sections of them as detailed in their geographical scope.
