Types of cycling paths: Green Cycling Ring: Cycling route with a circular route that surrounds the urban area of Madrid, for the most part it is a paved lane and segregated from vehicle traffic. Although much of its layout runs through green areas, sometimes it has to be hollowed out in the purely urban fabric. The crossroads of streets and avenues are duly signposted and conditioned for the crossing of cyclists. Radial infrastructures such as motorways or railways are crossed by footbridges. (orange) Exclusive use for bicycle: track specifically upgraded for cycle traffic, with the corresponding horizontal and/or vertical signalling (green colour). Bike lane: Road lane exclusively for use by bicycles marked with the corresponding road markings. You can have highlight separating bands as a road mark. Cycle track: Cycling band on its own platform, independent of the road and sidewalks. The differentiation of the sidewalk and / or the road can be by a height difference (greater than 3 cm, in the case of the sidewalk) and / or continuous segregation. Bicycle sidewalk: Cycling band at the curb without continuous physical segregation elements. That is, the cycle path is pedestrianly accessible. This occurs when there is no segregation or it is discontinuous (tree strip, for example) or when it is at a level below 3cm. Preferential use route for the bicycle: Route specifically conditioned and preferential use for bicycles (magenta color) Recommended band: Band of the road reserved preferably for the circulation of bicycles. It is not for exclusive use, but motorized vehicles should only step on it or invade it exceptionally and as long as there is no discomfort or road insecurity for the cyclist. Mixed route: Road restricted to general traffic where cycling is allowed in coexistence with certain types of vehicles. The bicycle will not have an exclusive or preferential use (blue color) Cyclocarril: Lane specially conditioned for the use of the bicycle where the circulation is shared with the rest of the vehicles, the cyclist does not enjoy an exclusive or preferential use. Motorised vehicles shall be driven at a maximum speed of 30 km/h, or less if specifically marked. Countercurrent circulation: Local streets where countercurrent circulation by cyclists is authorized. They are usually streets of traffic calming areas signposted as Zone 30 or “S-28” and where intensities and speeds are so low that traffic in the opposite direction to motorised traffic does not affect road safety.
