Monitoring of climate change indicator plant species in Spanish national parks
Description
It contains information on variables related to vitality (defoliation and discoloration) and the growth of individuals from 17 climate change indicator plant species located in 70 of the 192 parcels integrated in the Plant Health Monitoring Network in the forest masses of national parks. The initiative, which began in 2007 and collects data annually (in summer-autumn), takes as a reference what is established in the documents “Impacts and vulnerability of Spanish flora and vegetation to climate change” and “Preliminary ecological bases for the conservation of habitat types of Community interest in Spain”. The selected sampling species are Phillyrea angustifolia, Pistacia lentiscus, Buxus sempervirens, Rhododendron ferrugineum and Spartocytisus supranubius (arbustos), Juniperus phoenicea subsp. Turbine, Pinus halepensis, Pinus canariensis, Pinus uncinata, and Abies alba (conifers), Arbutus unedo, Fagus sylvatica, Laurus novocanariensis and Persea indica (planifolios trees) and Quercus suber, Quercus ilex subsp. Ballota, Quercus pyrenaica and Quercus petraea (frondosas). The initiative is integrated into the Monitoring and Evaluation Plan of the National Parks Network.
