2015 Report on Incidents Related to Hate Crimes in Spain
Description
The term “hate crimes” includes various conducts, some of which are classified as criminal offences in our Criminal Code, and others as infractions contemplated in different administrative regulations. It should be noted that those types of criminal and administrative nature include injuries, threats, insults, racist, xenophobic and intolerant acts in sport and harm.
This report is the result of the launch, in 2012, of a series of measures that have made it possible to highlight the threat faced by certain vulnerable groups, to raise awareness among society in general and to the media in particular, to adopt a philosophy of zero tolerance, and most importantly, to encourage victims to gather the courage and strength to denounce.
This third report introduces several new developments. On the one hand, the incorporation of expanded statistical information, motivated by an improvement in the training and awareness of members of the Security Forces, together with processes of purification and consolidation of data, allowing to obtain higher quality statistics in this area. In addition, two new criminal areas are incorporated into this balance sheet: gender-based incidents and ideology.
