Location of the works of art managed by the Territory of Grand Paris Seine Ouest.
A **work of art** is a construction of great importance to overcome an obstacle on a road, rail or river communication route (bridges, tunnels) but also a device to protect against the action of land or water (walls, covered trenches, dyke) and a system of transition between several modes of transport (fronts and other port structures).
Such works are called “art” because their design and realisation involve knowledge where experience plays as important a role as theory. This body of knowledge is, moreover, what is called the art of the engineer.
