The data represents the state of knowledge of the rivers of the SAGE Vilaine. The law for the reconquest of biodiversity, nature and landscapes of August 8, 2016 amended the Environmental Code, incorporating Article L215-7-1 which gives the definition of a watercourse.
The preservation of rivers first by an inventory. It is carried out on the scale of the sub-basins. The identification of streams makes it possible to better know the basin heads, i.e. the upstream parts of the watersheds and by extension the upstream sections of the watercourses that make up them. These areas are particularly important for the proper functioning of aquatic environments, biodiversity, water resources, physico-chemical quality, the supply and transfer of fine and coarse sediment downstream... Watershed heads are also particularly exposed to diffuse pollution and hydraulic developments.
