Description
DigitaltMuseum is the cultural-historical museums’ joint dissemination solution for photographs, artifacts and art. DigitaltMuseum contains information about 1.8 million objects from 174 museums and collections in Norway (status as of August 2016). The objects are presented at DigitaltMuseum with, among other things, the following data elements: — description — name — photo — historical photograph, or photographed object or artwork — location — municipality, address, place name or coordinates — type, keyword, classification — references The records are mainly based on the cataloging standards for cultural historical objects and photographs (see ABM-U).
The objects are recorded at different times, at different institutions and by different people, and it allows the information to differ slightly, even on the same type of objects.
The individual institutions may have additional information about the objects.
Data from DigitaltMuseum is available via Norvegiana’s AP I. This API delivers data on individual objects in xml, json or kml format.
A large proportion (particularly photo) is placed with coordinates (geographical decimal degrees and UTM 33).
The API is open and no key is required.
KulturIT also has its own API for DigitaltMuseum.
The license (i.e. rights to reuse) is at the post level, and will thus vary from post to post in the data set.
The data via KulturIT’s API is continuously updated, and via Norvegiana weekly.
