Urban area 1999 and 2010 in Occitania
Description
An urban area or “large urban area” is a set of communes, with a single contiguous and without enclave, consisting of an urban pole (urban unit) of more than 10000 jobs, and by rural communes or urban units (peri-urban crown) of which at least 40 % of the resident population with a job works in the pole or in communes attracted to it.
Zoning in urban areas 2010 also distinguishes:
* the “medium areas”, a group of communes, with a single contiguous and without enclave, consisting of a pole (urban unit) of 5000 to 10000 jobs, and by rural communes or urban units of which at least 40 % of the resident population with a job works in the pole or in communes attracted by it.
* the “small areas”, a group of communes, of one contiguous and without enclave, consisting of a pole (urban unit) of 1500 to 5000 jobs, and by rural communes or urban units of which at least 40 % of the resident population in employment works in the pole or in communes attracted by it.
Urban areas, dated 2010, were established in reference to the population known in the 2008 census.
