Natural areas of ecological, fauna and floristic interest – ZNIEFF – type 2

Description

The Natural Areas of Ecological, Wildlife and Floristic Interest are set up by the National Inventory of Natural Heritage on behalf of the Museum of Natural History. It is not a legal instrument but rather a scientific knowledge tool to protect the environment. Forests, ponds and forest plots may be affected by this scheme. ZNIEFF type 2 are the large, rich and minimally modified natural ensembles, offering significant biological potentialities. This type of ZNIEFF covers territories that in fact represent imposing areas. These areas can also include one or more Type 1 areas within them and cover large ensembles such as mountain ranges, or landscapes. Some parts of the area may not have remarkable species or spaces but participate in a whole.
