Laureates of the Blaise Pascal Chair since 1996
Description
The Blaise Pascal Chairs scheme allows very high-level foreign researchers, from all disciplines and with a worldwide reputation, to be accommodated in a higher education institution in Île-de-France.
This is part of the regional policy for higher education and research. Its objectives are to:
\- allow the reception of very high-level foreign researchers of all disciplines and with a worldwide reputation, in a laboratory or a higher education or research institution in Ile-de-France,
\- instill a scientific dynamic, by allowing exchanges between young researchers from the Ile-de-France laboratories and scientists of very high international level,
\- thus contributing to the international influence of laboratories in the Ile-de-France region.
The researcher in receipt of an international chair is hosted in a laboratory in the Ile-de-France region to develop a scientific project over a period of twelve months, with the possibility of splitting it up over two years, and to present, in a cycle of ten conferences, the most recent developments in his or her discipline. At the end of the stay, the researcher leads a seminar whose proceedings can be published in a French scientific journal.
Over the period 1996-2015, EUR 8 880 000 will have been allocated by the Region to finance this scheme on an equal footing with the State, which will have made it possible to host 86 internationally renowned researchers on these chairs, including the three holders of the 2014 promotion. Overall, this will represent nearly €17.4 million in coupled State-Region financing over the 20 years of the scheme's existence.
