Flowery towns and villages in Haute-Garonne (2018 results)
Description
**The prize-giving ceremony of the Villes et villages Fleuris de Haute-Garonne contest recognises municipalities that offer an image and an environment conducive to tourist attractiveness.**
In 2018, 70 municipalities of the department entered the competition. 45 municipalities were awarded for their actions in favor of flowering, landscaping and the protection of a plant and natural heritage, conducive to the well-being of their inhabitants and tourists.
As part of its tourism development policy and concerned with the quality of life of the Haut-Garonnais, the Departmental Council commits itself every year, through the Departmental Tourism Committee, to support the attractiveness of the territories and to preserve green and sustainable tourism.
_** The phyto-zero in the first row**_
The visits to the whole territory took place during the months of June and July, bringing 12 professionals to discover the different municipalities participating in the competition. The jury, composed of elected officials, professionals from tourism, landscape, horticulture, planning and the environment, and technicians from communes met in October to deliberate.
The criteria to be illustrated in the competition? Flowering as such, but also the enhancement of the heritage of the municipality. In addition, the jury has now added an environmental requirement to its criteria: working on the beautification of its municipality by getting closer to _zero phyto_ thus earns points, as does the development of a project to be presented to the competition with the collaboration of associations and/or schools.
It should be noted that 180 private gardeners also presented themselves to participate in the competition – a singularity from the High-Gauton region – a selection of which received a prize for the aesthetic and environmental quality of their green spaces.
