Via Garona Chemin de Grande Randonnée GR861

Description

Via Garona is a 170 km long hiking trail that connects the sites of Santiago de Compostela between Toulouse (Basilique Saint-Sernin) and Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges (Cathédrale Sainte-Marie).

It crosses 41 communes, all located in the Haute-Garonne department, including Toulouse, Muret, Noé, Rieux-Volvestre, Martres-Tolosane, Saint-Martory, Saint-Gaudens and Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges.

This route, officially approved as route de Grande Randonnée (GR®861) by the National Hiking Federation, makes it possible to link two jacquaire paths, the GR®653 voie d'Arles and the GR®78 voie du Piedmont. Via Garona is part of a network of paths of Santiago and brings together, along its route, the richness of the historical, cultural and natural heritage.
