Trial bags of the Parliament of Toulouse - Lot 03
Description
The trial bags database now contains nearly 15 000 files: it has just been enriched with almost 900 additional sheets. The vast majority of these are 18th century civil proceedings. Although at first glance they seem less fascinating than their criminal counterparts, they are nevertheless extremely rich. As part of the daily life of the protagonists, they are a valuable source for knowledge of the functioning of society during the period of the [Ancien Régime] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancien_R%C3%A9gime) in France.
From quarrels over neighbourhoods or successions, to poorly executed contracts, defaults on payments or other claims to rights, these proceedings contain numerous documents providing evidence: notarial deeds (contracts of sale, marriage, wills, farm leases), accounting documents, minutes of experts (sometimes accompanied by plans), copies of old deeds (sometimes dating back to [Middle Ages] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_%C3%82ge)), various and varied certificates, etc.

As a reminder: the work of counting has been carried out, for almost thirty years, by students. It was not possible for archivists to homogenise and correct everything that deserved to be homogenised. This results in a number of inaccuracies that are difficult to assess but may be significant, in particular as regards dates, names of persons and places. The analyses are very heterogeneous in the details given as well as in the quality of writing. We apologize in advance.
