Education: social Position Indexes in Haute-Garonne Colleges – 2022-2023
Description
This dataset offers the Social Position Index (SPI) in the Haute-Garonne colleges of the public sector and private institutions under contract, for the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
These data come from [data.education.gouv.fr](https://data.education.gouv.fr/pages/accueil/), an open platform for education, sports and youth data. We filtered them to keep only data relating to establishments in the Haute-Garonne department. We have also enriched them by adding data such as address, geolocation, postal code that were not included in the original data and which we believe to be useful for the use of this dataset.

**More:** a school’s Social Position Index (SPI) is an indicator calculated by the [Evaluation, Foresight and Performance Directorate](https://www.education.gouv.fr/direction-de-l-evaluation-de-la-prospective-et-de-la-performance-depp-12389) (DEPP). The latter summarises the socio-economic and cultural conditions of the families of the students accommodated in the school. The SPI thus makes it possible to report on existing social disparities between institutions, but also within these same institutions.
SPI values represent the average socio-economic and cultural conditions of occupations. It is a question of determining reference values for each CSP (Profession and Social Category) of the parents, or for each couple of PCS (father and mother). Then, it is sufficient to apply these reference values to the SCPs available in the school and calculate their average to obtain the average SPI of the school. The result is a continuous statistical indicator which also makes it possible to take into account the profile of both parents of the pupils (source: [education.gouv.fr](https://www.education.gouv.fr/l-indice-de-position-sociale-ips-357755)
