Geographical nomenclature standardised
Description
The Geographical Nomenclature Standardized (GNS) dataset contains only standardized names approved by the methodological process in accordance with the Geographical Nomenclature Standardization Instruction. The GNS dataset creation process is managed by the ÚGKK SR, which determines the names of non-resident geographical objects and specific resident geographical objects from the territory of the Slovak Republic, the usual forms of names of resident and non-resident geographical objects from the territory outside the Slovak Republic, the names of extraterrestrial objects and the method of transliterating the names of geographical objects from countries using a non-Latin alphabet or a non-Latin system of writing in Latin. Standardised names approved by decision of the Office shall be binding on publishers of cartographic works, for use in all media and in official activities of state bodies and municipalities. Objects are represented by a vector spatial component and a descriptive component that contains qualitative and quantitative information defined in the Catalogue of Object Classes ZBGIS (KTO ZBGIS) available at www.geoportal.sk.
